On Our Way to Australia to defend the cause of koalas

Welcome to our blog about our amazing 7-day school trip to Australia. Here you will be able to prepare your trip by discovering Sydney and Canberra.

But the main purpose of this blog is to increase public awareness about the extinction of koalas in the Eastern coast of Australia.

The director of the Koala Conservation and Research Foundation is giving a speech about the protection of koala populations in Australia.

1) Listen carefully to the speech "Protecting Koalas" several times

2) Create an Excel table and list information you get from the audio extract on the following themes:

- Names of Iconic animals of Australia (2 animals)
- Places where koalas live (3 places)
- Reasons of koalas death (4 reasons) 
- Number of koalas killed yearly: 

SEACH, READ, UNDERSTAND!

The Australian Koala Foundation

1) Try to find the reasons which motivate the Foundation to protect koalas.
Make 3 hypotheses.

2) Go to the following website and try to gather information on the Australian Koala Foundation and check your hypotheses.

3) To help you, answer the following questions:

- What kind of organization is the Australian Koala Foundation? 
- What are their aims?
- Where does the foundation intervene?

4) Imagine that you are a journalist. You have to write a short article on the foundations and its goals. Present the foundations in 150-200 words. Then Post it as a comment on this post.

BOOKING A SCHOOL EXCURSION 

1) Visit "Koala Park Sanctuary" website :
Write an email to a member of the staff to get information for a  school excursion to the following address : info@koalaparksanctuary.com.au
Do not forget to mention and to ask for :

•  Your name
• The date of the excursion 
• Opening hours 
• The number of adults and children
• The price and the means of payment
• Means of public transport to get there

2) Guideline to your visit to the park :
Pick up relevant information about the park to prepare your visit. 

• Where is the Park located ?
• When was it created ? By who ?
• Make a list of the other animals that can be found in the park.
• What are the conditions of life of the animals in the park ? (facilities, feeding time ...)

HOW TO CAMPAIGN TO DEFEND THE CAUSE OF KOALAS AND OTHER ANIMALS?

Now that you know the importance of the extinction of koalas, it's high time to campaign for them.

The main goal is to create your own blog on your trip in Australia and to defend the cause of koalas at the same time. 

The following list of elements must appear on your blog:

1) Create a poster on GLOGSTER to defend the koalas' cause and on their natural environment

- Find relevant images

- Find a slogan / important words

- Make the poster attractive!

2) Write a short speech to explain your poster and the arguments to defend the koalas' cause. 

- Stress on why it is important to preserve this animal

- Focus on the available means to defend and protect koalas

3) Record your speech as much as you want with a MP3. Your speech should last 1 min maximum. 

When you think your record is perfect, post it on your own blog! 

Remember the rules of the speech:

-  speak clearly and loudly

-  avoid reading your notes

-  pay attention to intonation to be more convincing
